"There are no gardening mistakes, only experiments."
- Janet Kilburn Philips.
My attempts at organic gardening, or as I have named it "Experiments in Organic Gardening," has taken on a life of its own. I have been inspired by so many people and gardeners before me, to list them all would be impossible. However, I would like to quote my mother, my favorite gardener ever, the quote that inspired my experimental gardening approach, "Plants want to live." And they will work hard to do so if you just figure out how you mucked it up to begin with. The cyclical rhythms of nature barely need any help from us. Plants grow and fruit or flower, feed creatures large and small, die back enhancing the soil that will feed the next crop. All this happens without us, but we can help. The gardener needs only to experiment to find the best way add a little while affecting the biggest positive change. Crop rotation, composting, providing native plants to encourage pollinators, and otherwise not getting in mother natures way, these are some of the positive changes I hope to achieve and inspire.

Not only is organic gardening healthier for you and those you love, cough cough pesticide lawsuits cough cough, it's better for the world and all who live in it. Don't get me wrong if I see a mosquito land on me, that bad boy is dead for sure! But killing bugs indiscriminately, is not good for the plants or the soil. Chemicals get into to the soil, the food for your plants, and you eat them with your tomatoes, summer squash, and cucumbers. They not only kill the bugs you don't want but they kill off ladybugs, spiders, and other helpful bugs. Not to mention the BEES! Your tomatoes will never forgive you! Please experiment with organic gardening. Figure out what will increase your harvest yield, while decreasing the harmful impact humans have on the environment. Do what you can in your corner of the world! One window box, patio planter, or yard can be the inspiration for many more!
